A student’s education starts in the home. While they spend a lot of time with us, they spend most of their time at home. We need to tap into the resources available to us to strengthen our student’s success – their parents and community. In addition to helping better reach our students, parents also hold the ultimate power in deciding what happens to our schools. Will our halls be filled with bright young minds, ready to learn, or will they be vacant, and our mailboxes fill of transfer slips as students leave in droves to charter, private, and on-line schools? Come to learn about the evolution of public education and how our role has changed from merely teaching a class of 30-40 to reaching an entire community, and beyond. Find out ways to engage the community of your school without losing hours of planning or personal time doing so.
